Cloning

Clones:

Plants:

Plants have been cloned all the time with and without human help. Some plants self-pollinate, thus creating a same exact copy of themselves. There are several techniques used to clone plants. People can simply clone plants by doing vegetative propagation. In vegetative  propagation, all a person has to do is plant a cutting of a plant. The more complicated way is tissue culture. The people who clone plants are called horticulturists. Horticulturists breed plants with specific traits like height, color, size, etc, through tissue culture. Tissue culture starts by taking a small part of the plant you want and putting it into a test tube. Then it is chemically treated and it grows shoots then roots.

UC Davis has cloned plants by the seed for the first time.

Bacterium:

Recombinant DNA Technology is used for bacteria. Bacteria is cloned for the purposes of replicating a certain gene that is desired. This bacteria helps with cloning genes that can be put into humans to help them with diseases or antibodies.

Animals:

Reproductive technology is use to clone animals. Dolly, a tadpole and frog were cloned using reproductive technology. Scientists clone animals for a few reasons. One reason they clone animals is to have test subjects that will help them with  their research. Another reason is to to do research on what will happen if a gene is inserted in an animal like the glowing dogs. Also they hope to accomplish finding cures to diseases so they can improve human life.
